Fiduciary Practice™ Is Now Open to Everyone

Deciding to become a fiduciary is one thing. Actually opening your doors is another. Between those two moments sits a stack of questions it can be challenging to easily find the answers to. How do you set up your entity? Which accounts do you open, and how do you keep client funds clean? How do you build an intake process, structure your fees, and plan for the months between your first appointment and your first compensation?

For a long time, people pieced those answers together on their own, or learned them the hard way once they were already responsible for someone's life and money. It no longer has to be that way.

What Fiduciary Practice is

Fiduciary Practice™ is our curriculum for building and launching a fiduciary practice. It is the structured training that bridges the gap between deciding to become a fiduciary and accepting your first appointment: business formation and practice models, legal and operational foundations, systems and referral development, client onboarding, ethics and decision-making, the right technology, and a real first-year financial plan. Seven modules, done at your own pace, ending with a practice that is actually ready to open.

Most new fiduciaries already know what a guardian, conservator, trustee, personal representative, or agent does. Fiduciary Practice teaches you how to build and run the practice that supports serving in those roles well.

Why we built this first

We could have started with how to be a trustee, or a guardian, or any of the roles in which fiduciaries serve. We started with the practice itself, on purpose. Building a sound practice is building the foundation everything else rests on. The intake process, the clean accounting, the clear fees, the documented decisions: these are not busywork around the real work of serving clients. They are what makes serving clients well possible. So we teach the foundation first.

Who it is for

If you are new to the role or aspiring to it, this is for you. If you are a career changer who wants one structured path instead of a dozen half-answers, this is for you. If you are newly licensed or certified and staring down your first appointment, this is for you. And if you already practice and want to strengthen your infrastructure, there is plenty here for you too.

What it is built on

Every module builds on The Fiduciary Method™, our framework for structured, accountable practice. Think of it less as a theory and more as the operating system your practice runs on: a consistent way to gather what matters, weigh it, decide, and record it, so your judgment holds up whether you are onboarding a client or facing a genuinely hard call. The Method is where the curriculum starts, in the very first module, and it runs through everything that follows.

What you walk away with

By the end you have real, usable things: a defined practice model, the tools to create your standard operating procedures, a client onboarding framework, an ethical decision-making protocol, a way to compare technology systems to find what you need for the size and complexity of your practice, a first-year financial plan, and the guidance to put successor arrangements in place sooner rather than later. Not notes. A practice.

The complete curriculum is approved for up to 9.25 continuing education units by the Center for Guardianship Certification.

You do not have to do it alone

Learning the work is one thing. Having people to ask is another. Alongside the curriculum, the Professional Community is now open to paid members: a vendor-free room where practicing and aspiring fiduciaries think out loud together, compare notes, and steady each other through the parts that are genuinely hard. Live Q&A sessions begin in August. Bring your questions, or join a case clinic to work through a challenging case together using The Fiduciary Method.

The real invitation

Choosing to build your practice well is choosing a standard: for your clients, for the families who depend on you, and for the fiduciary you want to be when the work gets hard. That standard is what The Fiduciary Institute exists to teach, and Fiduciary Practice is how we teach it, foundation first.

The doors are open. Wherever you are on the path, you can take the next step today.
