Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Choosing how to begin or grow your work as a fiduciary is meaningful. We’re here to make the process feel clear, grounded, and supported. If you don’t see your question here, you’re always welcome to reach out.

1. What is The Fiduciary Institute?

The Fiduciary Institute is a professional home for individuals serving as fiduciaries — people responsible for another person’s wellbeing, financial stewardship, and decision-making.

We provide:

  • Education and structured learning pathways

  • Practice resources and templates from The Fiduciary Toolkit™

  • A community rooted in judgment, integrity, and shared professional standards

Our work contributes to the larger effort to define, strengthen, and professionalize fiduciary practice.

2. Who are your programs designed for?

Our programs serve individuals pursuing fiduciary practice as a profession, as well as those in related professional roles. This includes:

  • Aspiring or emerging fiduciaries

  • Practicing professional fiduciaries

  • Attorneys, financial advisors, care managers, trust officers, and social workers

  • Public agencies and organizations building internal fiduciary capacity

If you’re building a career or practice in this field, you’re not alone — you’re joining a growing community defining what it means to serve responsibly.

3. What if I’m not a professional fiduciary, but I’ve been appointed to help a family member or someone I care about?
This is an important question, and you’re not alone in asking it.

The Fiduciary Institute is focused on professional practice, but we deeply respect the responsibility taken on by non-professionals.

For non-professional guardians, conservators, trustees, or personal representatives seeking guidance, we recommend training through Guardian Partners, a nonprofit that specializes in supporting family and lay fiduciaries.

Professional practice and family support require different training — we clarify the distinction while supporting both.

4. Do I need experience in law or finance to begin?

No. We start with foundational skills, orientation, and structured pathways for both new and experienced practitioners.

Advanced programs provide depth for those already in the field.

5. What types of education and resources do you offer?

We provide:

  • Introductory learning for those exploring the field

  • Structured practice pathways and applied training modules

  • Templates, workflows, and decision frameworks via The Fiduciary Toolkit™

  • Peer learning and mentorship through The Fiduciary Community™

  • Expert-led workshops on specialized topics

  • Future professional certification based on demonstrated competency

Start where you are and grow alongside others committed to ethical, high-impact fiduciary practice.

6. How do I register?

Explore programs on our Programs page. Enrollment buttons (“Register” or “Join the Pilot”) guide you through the next steps.

If a program is currently in pilot, you can request early access.

7. Do you offer refunds?

Yes. We take a human-first approach — if a program isn’t the right fit, reach out and we’ll work with you directly. Your learning experience should feel supported and safe.

8. Do your programs count for continuing education?

Depending on your state or credentialing body, some courses may qualify. Documentation can be provided to support CE applications.

9. How long do I have access to course materials?
Most courses include 12 months of access, so you can learn at your own pace.

10. Can I ask questions or get support during the course?
Yes. Many programs include discussion opportunities or email-based support. You do not have to learn this alone.

Structured guidance ensures you grow with confidence and competence.

11. I’m not sure if fiduciary practice is right for me. How do I find out?
Our Career Assessment and Beginner’s Guide are excellent places to start. These tools help you understand whether fiduciary work aligns with your strengths, motivations, and capacity for stewardship.

12. How is The Fiduciary Institute different from other training programs?

Many programs teach what to do. We teach how to think as a professional fiduciary.

We are building:

  • Shared professional standards

  • Reflective practice

  • Grounded judgment

  • Professional identity rooted in integrity

This is not just training — it is the foundation of a profession.

Join a community shaping the future of fiduciary practice — where competence, care, and shared purpose meet.
