About The Fiduciary Institute
1. What is The Fiduciary Institute?
The Fiduciary Institute is a national platform dedicated to establishing consistent standards for professional fiduciary practice. We provide structured education, applied practice tools through The Fiduciary Toolkit™, a professional community, and a credentialing pathway, all organized around The Fiduciary Method™, our proprietary framework for accountable fiduciary practice.
Our work addresses a long-standing gap in the profession: the absence of unified, practice-based training and professional standards across fiduciary roles.
2. What is The Fiduciary Method™?
The Fiduciary Method™ is the organizing framework behind everything we offer. It structures professional fiduciary work into five integrated systems and a seven-step decision-making cycle (the Integrated Practice Cycle) that governs how practitioners assess, verify, plan, act, document, review, and advance in every engagement.
It's not a theoretical model. It's the operating system for fiduciary practice, and it connects our training, tools, and credentialing into a unified professional standard.

3. How is The Fiduciary Institute different from other training providers?
Most fiduciary education focuses on what to know: statutes, definitions, regulatory requirements. The Fiduciary Institute focuses on how to practice: the operational systems, workflows, and professional judgment required to execute fiduciary responsibilities consistently and defensibly.
Key distinctions:
-
We integrate training, applied tools, community, and credentialing into a cohesive system, not a collection of standalone courses.
-
Our curriculum is practitioner-built, developed from active fiduciary practice rather than theoretical instruction.
-
We address multiple fiduciary roles (guardianship, conservatorship, trust and estate administration, power of attorney, and representative payee) within a unified framework.
-
Our credentialing pathway (in development) is designed to validate demonstrated competency, not just course completion.
State associations, CE/CLE providers, and independent course creators each serve important functions. The Fiduciary Institute occupies a different position: building the professional infrastructure the field has lacked.
Programs & Curriculum
4. Who are your programs designed for?
Our programs serve individuals pursuing fiduciary practice as a profession, as well as professionals in adjacent roles. This includes:
-
Aspiring and emerging professional fiduciaries
-
Practicing professional fiduciaries seeking to strengthen their systems and operations
-
Attorneys, financial advisors, care managers, trust officers, and social workers who work alongside fiduciaries
-
Public agencies and organizations building internal fiduciary capacity
5. What programs are currently available?
Fiduciary Practice™ is currently in pilot. This seven-module curriculum covers practice formation, legal and operational foundations, systems development, client onboarding, ethics and decision-making, technology, and financial planning for launch. It's designed for professionals who've decided to enter fiduciary practice and need the operational foundation to do so effectively.
Visit the Fiduciary Practice™ page for full program details and to register or express interest.
6. What about role-specific training?
Fiduciary Pathways™ is our role-based curriculum covering guardianship, conservatorship, trust administration, estate administration, agent under power of attorney, and representative payee. Pathways is rolling out in Q3 2026. Visit the Fiduciary Pathways™ page for curriculum details and to express interest.
7. Is the curriculum state-specific or national?
Our curriculum is intentionally focused on the 80%+ of each fiduciary role that isn't state-specific: operational systems, professional judgment, ethical decision-making, documentation, and practice management. This is the foundation that applies regardless of jurisdiction.
We're actively building collaborative partnerships with state-level associations, organizations, and independent training providers to address state-specific content. In the meantime, we encourage participants to familiarize themselves with the laws and requirements that apply in their jurisdiction, and to supplement our training with local resources where applicable.
8. Do I need experience in law or finance to begin?
No. Fiduciary Practice™ starts with foundational elements (entity structure, practice model selection, legal and operational setup) and builds progressively. Advanced programs provide depth for those already in the field.
9. How long do I have access to course materials?
Access varies depending on the curriculum and course. At a minimum, we offer 12 months of access, allowing you to work through the material at a pace that fits your schedule. Specific access terms are outlined on each program's enrollment page.
10. Can I ask questions or get support during the course?
Yes. Programs include discussion opportunities and email-based support. Structured guidance and peer engagement are core to how we deliver training.
Credentialing & Continuing Education
11. What is the status of your certification program?
The Certified Fiduciary™ credential is in development, with a targeted rollout in 2027. It's being designed as a national certification framework that validates demonstrated competency across fiduciary roles, not just course completion. Updates will be shared as the program takes shape.

12. Do your programs count for continuing education credits?
Depending on your state or credentialing body, some courses may qualify for continuing education credit. We can provide documentation to support CE applications to your relevant licensing or certification body.

14. Can organizations enroll multiple participants?
Yes. We welcome inquiries from agencies, firms, and organizations interested in enrolling teams or building internal fiduciary capacity. Contact us at info@thefiduciaryinstitute.com to discuss group arrangements.
15. Do you offer refunds?

Not a Professional Fiduciary?
16. What if I've been appointed to help a family member or someone I care about?
The Fiduciary Institute is focused on professional fiduciary practice. However, we recognize and respect the significant responsibility taken on by non-professional fiduciaries.
For non-professional guardians, conservators, trustees, or personal representatives seeking guidance, we recommend Guardian Partners, a nonprofit that specializes in supporting family and lay fiduciaries. Professional practice and family support require different training approaches, and we believe in directing people to the resources best suited to their situation.
17. I'm not sure if fiduciary practice is right for me. How do I find out?
Fiduciary Foundations™ is designed for exactly this. It's a two-course curriculum that takes you from questions to clarity:
-
Could This Be Your Profession provides a structured overview of what professional fiduciaries do, who they serve, and why demand for qualified fiduciaries is growing.
-
Finding Your Place in The Profession is a guided exploration of your strengths, interests, and alignment with fiduciary work, helping you determine whether this is the right professional direction for you.
Both courses are free to enroll and available now. Explore Fiduciary Foundations™
