Structured Programs for Every Stage of Fiduciary Practice
From exploring the profession to national certification, The Fiduciary Institute provides a defined professional development pathway for fiduciaries across all roles.
For a full overview of the profession, roles, and licensing landscape, see How to Become a Professional Fiduciary.
Built on The Fiduciary Method™
Every program at The Fiduciary Institute is built on The Fiduciary Method™, a proprietary framework organizing professional fiduciary practice into five integrated systems: Authority and Scope of Practice, Client and Asset Stewardship, Practice Operations and Case Management, Compliance, Ethics and Risk Management, and Growth, Professional Identity and Legacy. The Method also includes the Integrated Practice Cycle, a seven-step decision-making process that governs how practitioners assess, verify, plan, act, document, review, and advance in every engagement.
The free Introduction to The Fiduciary Method™ course is recommended before beginning any program in the curriculum.
Used by practitioners nationwide to standardize operations and maintain ethical rigor.
The Professional Development Pathway
A defined curriculum progression from exploring the profession through national certification. Each stage builds on the one before it, and every program connects to the same standards framework.

Stage 1: Fiduciary Foundations™
Explore the profession and evaluate your fit.
Two free courses designed for career changers, new entrants, and professionals considering whether fiduciary work is the right path. Foundations introduces the profession, the roles, the realities of the work, and helps you match your strengths and interests to the right direction.
Courses: Could This Be Your Profession? and Finding Your Place in the Profession.
Status: Available now. Both courses are free.
Outcome: A clear understanding of the profession and whether it aligns with your goals, skills, and professional identity.

Stage 2: Fiduciary Practice™
Build the operational foundation to launch your practice.
Seven modules covering business formation, legal and operational foundations, practice systems, client onboarding, ethical decision-making, technology, and first-year financial planning. The complete curriculum is approved for 9.25 continuing education units (CEUs) by the Center for Guardianship Certification (CGC). The Fiduciary Practice™ Flagship Bundle integrates 51 practice-ready tools from the Fiduciary Toolkit™.
Status: Founding cohort currently in session. General enrollment for self-paced access opens July 30, 2026.
Outcome: A complete, practice-ready operational foundation, from entity structure and standard operating procedures to your first-year budget and successor fiduciary arrangement, built before your first appointment.
Stage 3: Fiduciary Growth™
Strengthen and scale an established practice.
Advanced training for fiduciaries who have moved past the startup stage, roughly two to five years in, and are ready to run a stronger, larger, more sustainable practice. The focus is the business of fiduciary work rather than the casework: delegation and building a team, integrating systems and technology as you grow, refining your client mix and developing a niche, succession planning, leadership, and the business strategy behind sustainable expansion. Fiduciary Growth builds directly on Fiduciary Practice and does not require completing Pathways.
Status: In development. Anticipated 2027.
Outcome: The systems, team, and strategic judgment to grow a sustainable practice with intention rather than by accident.
Stage 4: Fiduciary Pathways™
Develop role-specific competency.
Structured training tracks for each professional fiduciary role: guardianship, conservatorship, trust administration, estate administration, agent under power of attorney, and representative payee. Each track builds on the operational foundation from Fiduciary Practice and covers the legal frameworks, operational distinctions, and case management unique to that role.
Each role is offered in two levels. An Essentials track establishes the core competency to take on the role, and an Advanced track (releasing later) goes deeper into complex cases and the harder judgment calls within it. Take the roles you serve, at the depth you need.
Status: Essentials tracks in development, with initial tracks releasing Q4 2026. Advanced tracks to follow.
Outcome: Role-specific mastery across the fiduciary functions you serve, with the depth and specificity that general training does not provide.
Stage 5: State-Specific Practice Modules
Address jurisdictional requirements for your state.
Professional fiduciary practice is governed by state-specific statutes, court rules, and compliance requirements that vary significantly across jurisdictions. The Fiduciary Institute is developing state-specific practice modules that will be integrated into the Fiduciary Practice™ and Pathways™ curricula, addressing the jurisdictional variances that affect how practitioners operate in their state.
These modules are being developed in partnership with practitioners and state association members in each jurisdiction to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Status: In development.
Outcome: Confidence that your practice is aligned with the specific legal and regulatory requirements of your jurisdiction.
Stage 6: Certified Fiduciary™ (Optional)
Demonstrate integrated competency across fiduciary roles.
A national professional fiduciary certification designed to assess cross-role competency, practice systems, and alignment with professional standards. The credential is the culmination of the professional development pathway, while remaining accessible to experienced fiduciaries who can demonstrate equivalent competency.
Status: In development. Substantive updates anticipated 2027.
Outcome: A recognized professional credential validating integrated fiduciary competency across roles and practice areas.
